“I am Nuno Jorge Lamas, a portuguese specialist in Anatomic Pathology at the Anatomic Pathology Service, Genetics and Pathology Clinic, Unidade Local de Saúde de Santo António (ULSSA), Porto, Portugal (https://www.chporto.pt/) and an Assistant Professor at School of Medicine and Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), University of Minho, Campus, Braga (https://www.med.uminho.pt/en/Medical-Degree), in Portugal.

To pursue additional training of excellence in Molecular Pathology I am now student in the European Master in Molecular Pathology (EMMP), directed by Professor Marius Ilié; and as part of it I came to perform a 6-week internship at the Laboratory of Clinical and Experimental Pathology (LPCE), in the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Nice & Université Côte ďAzur, Nice, France, which is directed by Professor Paul Hofman. This was my second experience in this unique and special environment, which took place in April and May 2025. My first visit was in 2021 for nearly 3 months (mid July 2021 until the end of October 2021). Similarly to my first experience, I followed and got involved in the whole process of pathology diagnosis and molecular testing for the routine cases, which is performed in an environment of high standards in every step. I was also exposed and involved in the testing of novel and innovative technologies of molecular analysis that are being developed in the laboratory, especially in comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP). Over the past years, the LPCE biobank has assembled a treasurable collection of pathology biospecimens from the thoracic pathology, among others and I was also given the golden opportunity to perform a translational research study in a promising novel marker in lung cancer involving a large cohort of specimens/patients. I had an amazing 6-week stay in the laboratory and I wish I could have stayed 6-months instead. I feel very honoured and grateful to have been exposed to this environment of excellence in Pathology diagnosis and research. It is fantastic to realise how the laboratory has expanded and become even better, more robust and comprehensive in molecular studies in just four years. I would like to wish the LPCE biobank and Professor Paul Hofman’s team all the success for the future. Best wishes for continued excellent work and I look forward to hearing about your outstanding contributions to research in the field of Molecular Pathology and beyond. I would very much like to thank you for this second experience and inspiring days at your amazing laboratory in Nice.”
